Nutrition Basics

Natural therapies require attention to nutrition. A plant based diet is encouraged.

Increase foods that have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Enhance Liver Activity

  • cruciferous vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, kale, turnips, watercress, radish and arugula (avoid overcooking)

Eat

  • whole grains such as brown rice, oats, buckwheat, millet, rye, and spelt
  • increase fiber
  • soy isoflavones have an antiestrogen effect

  • foods that contain carotenes, apricots, sweet potato, cantaloupe, carrots, pumpkin and spinach and kale
  • increase antioxidants through green tea, through polyphenol

Avoid

  • alcohol
  • saturated fats
  • sugar
  • caffeine
  • processed foods
  • red meat and animal fats. If you do eat beef, trey to eat grass fed only
  • dairy including milk, cheese, cream, butter, ice cream
  • artificial sweeteners
  • avoid inflammatory foods
  • refined Sugar
  • refined carbohydrate products made with white, bleached flour,  processed grains, such as instant hot cereals and commercial breads

Supplements

  • inositol
  • choline
  • Lipotropic factors
  • Consider taking a multivitamin every day. Look for one that has 100% daily value for vitamins: B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B12 and B6. Vitamins C, D, E and folic acid should also be included, as well as a maximum of 15,000 IUs of beta-carotene (vitamin A)
  • DIM, can help to metabolize estrogens, recommended 200 mg per day with food
  • Calcium d-glucarate can help to metabolize estrogen
  • Iodine down-regulates estrogen receptors
  • Vitamin A* as beta-carotene, not retinol; (10,000 iu per day)
  • Vitamin C with bioflavonoids (1000mg per day)
  • Omega 3 oils (EPA 700mg, DHA 500mg)
  • Vitamin B complex (providing 50mg of each B vitamin)
  • Zinc citrate (15mg per day)
  • Vitamin D3
  • Vitex (400 milligrams, 2 times daily) can promote the production of progesterone
